News Date:April 26, 2025
Mr. Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, and Eng. Hazem El-Ashmouny, Governor of Sharkia, conducted an inspection tour of the Al-Jawsaq and Al-Asluji Associations in Belbeis and Zagazig to monitor their progress. This tour complements the opening of the wheat harvest season in the village of Arab Al-Bayadin in the center and city of Belbeis. The inspection tour began with a visit by the Minister of Agriculture and the Governor of Sharkia to the projects of the Al-Jawsaq Agricultural Development Association in Belbeis. The association includes a farm for producing table eggs with a capacity of approximately 20,000 chickens, in addition to an apiary that accommodates approximately 100 beehives. They also inspected the association's warehouses and various facilities. The visit also included a visit to Al-Asluji Agricultural Development Association in Zagazig, affiliated with the Ministry of Agrarian Reform, to monitor its progress and review its activities. During the visit, Farouk emphasized the need to purify agricultural holdings and ensure the absence of fictitious holdings. He also emphasized the need to conduct an actual inventory of crops, remove any agricultural encroachments, and prevent the disbursement of fertilizers to those encroaching on agricultural land. The Minister of Agriculture directed that farmers be facilitated and any obstacles to fertilizer disbursement be removed, in accordance with the fertilizer requirements for planted crops and the Smart Farmer Card system. The Minister of Agriculture indicated that work is currently underway to amend the Agricultural Cooperatives Law, which aims to deepen the role of agricultural associations and provide them with real services. This will enable the agricultural association to become a home for farmers, provide all means of support to farmers, and provide various agricultural production requirements. The Minister emphasized the need to quickly complete the development of agricultural associations nationwide to ensure they are appropriate for the Egyptian farmer. He emphasized the need to focus on agricultural extension services and educate farmers and breeders. He emphasized the need for continuous communication with farmers in the fields, intensify pest and weed control campaigns, and provide pesticides to agricultural associations. He also emphasized the need to expedite the disinfection of irrigation canals and waterways. The Minister of Agriculture also directed efforts to develop productive projects implemented by agricultural associations, double these projects, and open more outlets to market their products at reduced prices for citizens. This will contribute to alleviating the burden on citizens and maximizing returns. For his part, Eng. Hazem El-Ashmouny emphasized that the agricultural sector is currently witnessing an unprecedented boom, in light of the significant attention given by the political leadership to this sector, given its special importance in directly supporting the food security system and the drive towards achieving self-sufficiency in agricultural crops and increasing their productivity. The governor thanked the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation for his continuous and consistent support to Sharkia farmers. This support includes providing the necessary fertilizers, improving agricultural practices, developing varieties and hybrids that adapt to climate change, increasing reliance on certified and improved seeds, and preparing and publishing a variety map for some strategic crops to contribute increasing the productivity of crops and agricultural products. The governor also commended the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation's efforts to develop agricultural associations, enhance their performance, and enable them to provide effective services to farmers, including production requirements, agricultural extension services, and financing services for small and medium enterprises, all of which contribute to raising farmers' standard of living and increasing their incomes.
