Title:Al Sharkia Governor meets with the Head of the Education Sector at the UNESCO Regional Office in Cairo

Eng. Hazem El-Ashmouny, Governor of Al Sharkia, met with Dr. Mary Ann Mansion, Head of the Education Sector at the UNESCO Regional Office in Cairo, to enhance cooperation between the governorate and UNESCO by opening a number of community learning centers in various centers and cities of the governorate and identifying the necessary needs to implement a number of projects in the field of supporting and integrating groups deprived of education and learning opportunities. The governor welcomed the Head of the Education Sector at the UNESCO Regional Office in Cairo, stressing the governorate's endeavor to achieve Egypt's Vision 2030 by focusing on marginalized areas and improving services provided to the governorate's people and aligning with national plans aimed at enhancing cultural, social and economic growth to achieve a better life for citizens. El-Ashmouny added that the governorate has harnessed all its resources to enhance comprehensive learning and use digital transformation technologies, enhance lifelong learning, and enhance individual empowerment and social integration as a means to achieve higher rates of sustainable development. For her part, Dr. Mary Ann Mansio, the Head of the Education Sector at the UNESCO Regional Office in Cairo confirmed UNESCO's interest in developing the skills and capabilities of community members to support continuous learning, and expressed her aspiration to enhance cooperation within the framework of the Learning Cities Strategy, noting that the learning centers include programs for technical and vocational education, psychological and social support programs, entrepreneurship and leadership programs, technology, information and communication programs, literacy, and special programs for trainers. During the meeting, a proposal was presented for the governorate to host a number of governorate ambassadors to raise awareness of learning cities and ways to progress and join to create an educational community with all its elements and to present the governorate's experience in joining the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities. Eng. Lobna Abdel Aziz, Deputy Governor, explained the continuation of cooperation and coordination with UNESCO to open a number of community learning centers to serve the governorate's residents, noting that a field visit was made to the old village of Al-Salihiya in Faqus Center and the village of Karadis affiliated to Diarb Negm Center and City to discuss the possibility of establishing community learning centers for learning new crafts and provide serious job opportunities.
